Christmas at the School House

I always find it hard to start planning for Christmas in October. As a child Christmas started on Christmas Eve with my parents decorating the house when we went to bed!

But when it comes to food it is best to be prepared - I think. Last year I cooked Venison Wellington for my family. I purchased the venison from Deer Box (winner of best UK Game Independent Meat) in England. In Ireland i'd recommend Baronscourt Estate Venison that has also received top taste awards.

My nephew and his wife are both vegans so it was great fun exploring recipes for Christmas, I settled on a Celeriac and Hazelnut loaf served with berries and Spiced Butternut Squash Filo Parcels.

I will also be making Festive Pies and Sausage Rolls for the lovely people at Maegden in Bushmills. The best place for Cheese and all those lovely little things that make Christmas meals so special.

So at the Old School House we have some Christmas and New Year Dine at Home Options - just for those evenings you want a break from cooking. I also have some dates available for Private Dining over New Year. Alternatively look at our Pie Shop for a stunning show piece for your table.

If you want something special then contact me. One of my favourite clients challenged me to make a Prinzregententorte Cake - 8 layers of cake and chocolate topped with chocolate crowns. It was really fun to make and apparently very delicious.

Happy Christmas and New Year to you all.
